The bloodshed continued on Friday with three persons murdered in Malick, and another shot dead in Champ Fleurs. These killings take the murder toll to 165.
Homicide Bureau Police were kept busy late into the night.
The first set of killings took place shortly after 1 pm. at Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria.
A triple murder investigation was launched after a third victim succumbed to injuries following a brazen daylight shooting in Malick that left five people wounded, including a woman who was grazed by a bullet.
According to police reports, several people were liming in a yard when a white SUV pulled up nearby. Three armed men exited the vehicle and unleashed a barrage of gunfire using high-powered rifles.
The persons who were liming ran for cover. However, several of them were shot and wounded.
When the gunfire ended, five people had been struck. Oren Danglade, also called “Grimey” was pronounced dead at the scene, while Akins Phillip and another injured man were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital. Phillip died at hospital. A third critically wounded man, identified as Keron Paul, was transported by police to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A woman was also grazed during the attack and received medical treatment.
Investigations revealed said Danglade was wanted for questioning into the murder of Jamal Carter, also known as “Big Joe,” who was shot dead in Morvant on May 16.
In that incident, Carter, 33, of Coconut Drive, Morvant, was liming near a wooden structure at Arneaud Avenue off Lady Young Road when three armed men approached and opened fire. Crime scene investigators recovered 26 spent 9 mm shell casings and one live round at the scene.
Investigators are wondering whether the deadly shooting in Malick may be linked to ongoing gang warfare and retaliatory attacks related to recent murders in Port-of-Spain and Morvant.
This is the second triple killing within one week.
On June 1, three men -Martin Harripersad, 42, his son, Clariey Kingfoo, and friend Anthony Alibocas, were shot and killed in a deadly home invasion on Sixth Street, Corinth, Ste Madeleine. The fatal shooting took place in the early hours. Police are working on the theory that Harripersad was the target. No one has been arrested.
CHAMP FLEURS SHOOTING
Around 8 pm on Friday, Calvert Spence was sitting in a Nissan Tiida vehicle at Mount D’Or Road, Champ Fleurs, when he was shot by a lone gunman who later ran away. Spence died at the scene.
His body was eventually removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy on Monday.
