Team Sunshine played an 11-table, 111-bullseye match against Square Deal of Point Fortin last Saturday at Team Sunshine’s home base, Oscar’s Palace on First Street, Five Rivers, Arouca.
Square Deal arrived more than an hour before the official 2:00 p.m. start time. Unfortunately, some Team Sunshine members, as has now become the norm, casually strolled in only minutes before the scheduled start, resulting in a 15-minute delay.
Before the match commenced, both teams were treated to hot chicken foot soup and took the opportunity to mingle and exchange pleasantries. The atmosphere was warm and friendly as the competition got underway.
Once again, Team Sunshine found itself trailing at the halfway stage. Square Deal led 55-44 in bullseyes and 18-14 in hang jacks.
Lunch was served at the end of the first half, and it was another sumptuous spread prepared by Foodsurgeon. The Chinese-style menu featured both chicken and fish and was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
Following lunch, both teams met separately to discuss strategy. Team Sunshine members pledged to improve their performance in the second half. However, it was not to be. At no stage did Team Sunshine take the lead, and they eventually succumbed to a comprehensive defeat, failing to reach the 100-bullseye mark.
The final scores were 111-88 in bullseyes and 50-24 in hang jacks, both in favour of Square Deal. The Point Fortin team captured 10 of the 13 prizes on offer.
However, despite their dominant performance, the prizes were not distributed as Square Deal was unable to pay the agreed match fee of $150 per person. What had been a very friendly and enjoyable encounter throughout ended on a somewhat sour note. Square Deal has since formally apologised for the situation but did not say when or if the outstanding sum will be paid
