“Batman” arrested – Search for Robin and others

A Black Rock man, dubbed the “Batman”, was arrested by  the police in connection with the failed heist of a First Citizens ATM by five men. 

The search is now on for Robin and three others.

It all started when two of the men robbed a THA facility of an excavator and used it to tear through a wall to get to the vault in Plymouth.

Around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the five men arrived at the ATM, located at Supreme Plaza, along Shelbourne Street. They used the stolen exca­vator to rip off the door of the ATM enclosure and extract the machine containing the cash.

The men also had a stolen truck, and the driver of the excavator attempted to lift the ATM onto the bed of the truck.

 However, the suspects had not planned for the excavator stalling.

The men, one of whom was dressed in a Batman suit, could not lift the machine.

By that time, the noise alerted residents who called the police. As a result, they abandoned the heist and fled.

According to reports, three estate constables were on duty at the YMCA and Beach Sports Facility in Courland when they were accos­ted by two masked men.

The men instructed the guards to hand over the keys to a yellow Caterpillar exca­vator and a white Mazda truck.

The suspects proceeded to Shelbourne Street, Plymouth, where they used the excavator in an attempt to access the ATM.

Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department and the Task Force, Area North, are investigating.
