While businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife Genevieve spent a second night in police custody, comes the news that the 69-year-old aunt of Genevieve was detained on Thursday.
A media release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) at 8.30 pm on Thursday, revealed the latest arrest – this time the woman who lives at Westmoorings.
Sunshine Today was informed on Friday morning that the latest arrest is linked to the investigations in which the Hadeed and his wife are assisting the probe.
The latest police media release did not name the identity of the third person. Police sources said the latest detainee is being questioned in connection to an investigation which is extensive.
The media release noted that people being taken into custody for the purpose of assisting with inquiries was a standard investigative procedure and did not constitute a finding of wrongdoing or adverse inference.
The release added, “The TTPS remains committed to ensuring that all investigative steps are conducted professionally, impartially, and with full respect for the legal and reputational rights of all individuals involved.
“As this matter remains active, no further information can be disclosed at this time. The TTPS will continue to provide updates as appropriate and remains steadfast in its duty to uphold the rule of law.”
Police sources said when the investigations are completed, they would approach the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine if any charges are to be laid in this matter.
“As for now, we are not there yet,” one officer added.
On Wednesday, police officers from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), arrived at the Hadeeds’ home at Westmoorings around 5 am. The Police seized several electronic devices, including laptops. Electronic devices belonging to the couple’s children were also taken.
Investigators then drove Hadeed to his business in Trincity, to conduct additional searches as part of ongoing inquiries.
