I am amazed at the criticism of officials who did not attend the Emancipation ceremony. Are we not a democracy, where people are free to choose?
We celebrate emancipation while still carrying colonial names and debating the removal of the three ships from our Coat of Arms. Changing symbols does not change minds.
True emancipation means freedom of thought and choice, and judging people by their character and contribution, not race or background.
Perhaps we need to emancipate our minds first.
