Iran

Every day, the US news focuses on whether Iran will make a deal.

History suggests the answer is not so simple. Iran, heir to the ancient Persian Empire, places great value on its sovereignty and national pride. While King Cyrus allowed the Israelites to return to their homeland, Persia was never known for yielding to outside pressure.

Modern Iran is therefore unlikely to accept any agreement perceived as a sign of weakness. Any lasting deal must allow both sides to protect their dignity and national interests.
