Team Sunshine Leads at Half-Time but FairPlay Stages a Strong Second-Half Comeback
Team Sunshine travelled to the Macaulay Community Centre last Saturday to face FairPlay of Claxton Bay in a 12-table, 121-bullseyes All Fours match.
It was the sixth meeting between the two teams, with FairPlay having won on four previous occasions, while Team Sunshine had managed just one victory—and that by the slimmest of margins. Nevertheless, Team Sunshine members arrived confident that the tables would finally be turned.
The team, however, was without several of its key players, who were unavailable because many of them had chosen to represent another All Fours team. Despite this setback, those who took to the tables remained determined to give FairPlay a serious challenge.
The Macaulay Community Centre provided an excellent venue. The spacious facility was fully air-conditioned, while ample parking was available outside. Inside, however, it was a different story for FairPlay.
Team Sunshine came out firing and managed to take control of the first half, ending with a 60–55 lead in bullseyes, although FairPlay took the honours in the hang jacks, 23/18.
Then came the customary half-time break, during which time the players were treated to a hearty lunch of buss-up shut, curry mango, aloo and channa, curry chicken and fresh salad. After lunch, both teams regrouped for their respective strategic discussions before returning to the tables.
While FairPlay quietly gathered in one corner to discuss its second-half strategy, Team Sunshine experienced an unexpected moment of internal disagreement, with two members exchanging differing views in the presence of their teammates.
It was an unusual occurrence for Team Sunshine and, understandably, did little to enhance team morale. Nevertheless, the players returned to the tables and the match continued in the true spirit of competition.
Unfortunately for Team Sunshine, FairPlay emerged from the second-half battle with the upper hand. FairPlay overturned the first-half deficit to win the bullseyes 121–113 and dominated the hang jacks 45–28.
With that, FairPlay secured its fifth victory in six meetings between the two teams.
Team Sunshine wishes to place on record its appreciation to those players who, although not full-time members of the team, answered the call when assistance was needed. Their willingness to step up and represent the team is greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
