Two minors were among 19 illegal Venezuelans detained during an Operation Resolute Shield exercise conducted in the Glencoe area early on Sunday morning.
Task Force officers conducted the exercise between 9 pm on Saturday and 5 am on Sunday in the Glencoe district.
During the exercise, police officers conducted a road exercise along the Western Main Road where they stopped and searched a white panel van driven by a 47-year-old Trinidadian.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 19 passengers, all Venezuelan nationals, who had entered the country illegally.
The 17 adults and two minors were detained along with the male driver.
The Immigration Division was contacted. According to police reports, the Venezuelans were picked up minutes before in the Chaguaramas area and were being transported to a location where they would have been “taken care of” by a businessman.
The exercise was sanctioned by Senior Supt. Williams and spearheaded by Inspector Grant and involved ASP Burris and ASP Hernandez.
