The four persons killed in the drive-by shooting on the Lady Young Road, Morvant, on Sunday night have been identified. Reports also revealed that a fifth person escaped with injuries and is alive.

The five were returning from a family gathering at Harry’s Water Park, Tabaquite, when tragedy struck. Investigators said the victims had spent the day at the water park with relatives and friends and were heading home around 7.50 p.m. when their vehicle, a red Mitsubishi Lancer, was ambushed near the Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The persons killed were: Obataiye Okerian Latiff, 23, of Don Miguel Road, San Juan; Chelsea Edwards, 20, of Belmont; Asim Armstrong of Mc Shine Road, Belmont; and J’layna Armstrong, nine, of Nicholasville, San Juan.

A fifth occupant, Cornelius Smart, 23, of Gonzales, was wounded and taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he remains in stable condition with gunshot injuries.
According to police reports, gunmen pulled alongside the vehicle and opened fire, sending it careening across the roadway before it collided with another car. Police officers found the four victims inside with gunshot wounds. They were already dead.

The shooting caused residents in the area to flee. The drama also caused a back-up of traffic and curious onlookers at the scene. Crime scene investigators later recovered 30 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition and a projectile fragment from the scene.

Police believe the attack may be gang-related.
Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro, at a media conference on Monday said, investigators have “persons of interests” in their sights, but added that no one had yet been arrested.
