AG: Man behind prosecutor’s murder, kept at Teteron

By FRANCIS JOSEPH

The mastermind behind the murder of special State prosecutor, Randall Hector, in 2024, is behind bars at Teteron Barracks.

This was disclosed by Attorney General John Jeremie SC in the House of Representatives on Friday morning as he piloted the Special Operations Bill 2026.

Hector, 43, was ambushed by a group of men as he walked to his vehicle with his wife and children after leaving the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Stanmore Avenue, Port-of-Spain, on December 31, 2024.

The Attorney General pointed out that Hector, who worked as a State prosecutor, had left the church with his family after delivering a sermon on the goodness of God when, with clinical precision and obvious meticulous planning, a black SUV and a Nissan B15, ambushed the family a short distance from their vehicle.

He added, “The gang members, the murderers, jumped out and shot him in the chest seven times.”

The AG said, “Madame Deputy Speaker, that one incident, one example, is but one example of the terror that we escaped as a country, a glimpse of what might have been today had they not been removed from office.”

During his contribution, AG Jeremie said that the man alleged to have ordered the hit on the prosecutor had been arrested and was being held at Teteron Barracks.

Hear the AG, “This morning I can report to the House and to the country that the individual who is alleged to have commandeered that hit has been a resident of Teteron since last year, cut off from communication with his network and unable to exhibit the level of contempt for the rest of us that kept those opposite timid, silent…” he said.

To make his point, Jeremie said Hector was murdered just hours after the then PNM Government declared a State of Emergency amid fears of escalating gang violence and reprisal killings.

Days before Hector was killed, the then Government declared a State of Emergency.

The State of Emergency was declared following a brazen killing outside the Besson Street Police Station, and the revenge killing of five men in Laventille with hours.

Jeremie said hours after that, Hector was killed. He said Hector’s murder represented one example of what he described as the terror from which the country had escaped following the change in government.

Hector served as legal director of the Strategic Services Agency (SSA) before establishing his own law firm. He also worked as a special prosecutor with the DPP and had been retained by the State in cases involving alleged gang figures.
