A 46-year-old businessman was stabbed to death by a woman inside his apartment at Woodford Gardens, Chaguanas, on Sunday night. The suspect is a woman, aged 25.
The killing happened at an apartment located at the corner of Oak Avenue and Coconut Drive.
When paramedics from the Emergency Health Services arrived, they found the victim, Gregory Reece, with no vital signs. He was later declared dead by the District Medical Officer. The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy on Monday.
According to police reports, the man had arrived at the property driving a Toyota SUV, registration number PEF 9530, which remained parked outside the apartment.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain unclear, but officers from the Central Division and detectives assigned to Region 3 Homicide Bureau of Investigations were at the scene gathering information and carrying out inquiries.
In 2017, Reece was granted $300,000 bail after appearing in court charged with four counts of uttering a forged valuable security and two counts of obtaining over $1.4 million by false pretenses, between August 3rd and August 18th, 2017.
On August 3rd, it was alleged that Reece deposited the cheques into his business account.The cheques were drawn on the account of the Arima Borough Corporation, in the sum of $1,424,958.83.
It was later discovered the cheques were fraudulent and as a result, his account was flagged.
When Reece visited the First Citizens Bank, Chaguanas on August 18th to conduct a transaction, the bank alerted the Fraud Squad who arrived promptly and arrested him. The case was still pending.
The murder toll stands at 189.
