A prisoner who escaped from the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope in October, has been recaptured in Laventille.
Darren Stewart, of Upper Irving Street, Petit Bourg, San Juan, was held by police officers of the Port of Spain Division’s Gang Intelligence Unit at Williams Street, Laventille, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Stewart was wanted in connection with escaping lawful custody at the hospital on October 14 around 7:20 p.m.
According to police reports, Stewart was detained at the St Joseph Police Station when he complained of abdominal pain, fever and difficulty urinating. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for medical attention.

A doctor examined Stewart and initially recommended a CT scan, prompting officers to escort him to the Radiology Department. However, the doctor later indicated that another scan was unnecessary because Stewart had reportedly undergone the procedure the previous week.
As officers escorted him back towards the fourth-floor area, along an external corridor between the Radiology Department, Stewart broke away and fled.
He jumped 20 feet and escaped with handcuffs on.
The exercise was conducted under the command of Senior Superintendent Ghool, Superintendents Ramdeen and Cadette, Assistant Superintendents Mungroo and Durga, and Acting Inspector Mohammed.
Acting Sergeant Benjamin and Acting Corporal John directly supervised the officers involved.
