Public servants, Port workers and the unions are waiting for the post Budget announcements and their long overdue back pay.
But Government and the unions should answer one simple question: When workers finally get their money, what will it actually buy?
Prices have gone through the roof. Food, electricity, water, property taxes, transportation and everyday necessities have become painfully expensive, while salaries and pensions have lagged behind.
Government can proudly announce billions in back pay, and unions can proudly announce that they negotiated a settlement, but if inflation has already swallowed the purchasing power, who really won?
The workers certainly didn’t.
Stop celebrating dollars on paper. Tell the people what those dollars can actually buy.
After years of waiting, workers deserve real purchasing power, not a cheque that looks big but feels small.
